This is a simple, balanced design known as a 'koru,' the Maori word for spiral. With a small triangle like head, it curls downward to form the spiral, a design that represents growth and new beginnings. There are two jade colours available, a green from Canada and a beautiful inky black from Australia. Choose from multiple sizes in each.

The Koru

The koru is a beloved symbol throughout Aotearoa, seen painted on tipuna (meeting houses), waka (canoes), in traditional Tā moko (Māori tattooing) and on wood and greenstone carvings. Pounamu artists use the koru pattern in many different ways; often introducing it as surface-etching or detail into other forms and shapes. It is thought to depict new beginnings, life and hope.
