John Sheehan Snr is the founder of Mountain Jade, taking it from its humble roots in his single-man workshop to one of the leading establishments of handcrafted jade carvings in New Zealand. His vision is to support local artists, whilst also creating an interactive space to learn about the traditions and history of pounamu. John’s wife, Margaret, has the same shared passion and is a skilled hand in producing her own contemporary pieces.
While Mountain Jade has grown since those early days that John spent hunched over in his workshop, the company is still run by the Sheehan family. That flicker John had all those years ago now burns brightly, and everything we do is imbued with that flame. John's children, John Sheehan Junior and Hannah Sheehan follow in his father's footsteps, continuing to evolve the diverse Mountain Jade product range.
